LondonINDIE needs an editor
Filed under: Uncategorized Posted @ 12:09 pm `

You may have noticed that LondonINDIE needs some love.
There is no-one at the helm of this ship! If anyone with a love of local music is interested in taking charge of the site’s content and functions, please send an e-mail to meaghan@londonindie.com.

Past functions of the site have included organizing featured bands, filling out shows in the database, creating banners for upcoming shows, replying to band e-mails with help about setting up shows in London, actually setting up shows under the guise of LondonINDIE, and a radio show on CHRW.

Meaghan thinks Ian is a jerk.
Filed under: Local News Posted @ 6:14 am `

You know… I have been running this site for 3 years now. Not well at times, that’s for sure… but I’ve put a bunch of time and effort into it… and you know… I’ve barely slagged on anyone for their music style or their skill level. I have always tried to find the reason for why people make the music they do, because I like people… and you know what I have gotten out of this?

To start off… jaded. From the infamous 20hz debacle, we all know I had a rough time there. What really bothers me most about London, and it makes me happy to have gone through such a hard time to realize this… the people who I talked to every time I went out, the people who I thought were more than just acquaintances… they are just assholes.

On September 11th, I got a half-asses apology in my MySpace account from Riderless Ian saying ‘it was a joke, don’t take it all personal’… of course, I was like WTF… when I looked at the listings on LondonINDIE I notice that they star bookie of London has slotted me in that night. My genre: Snobbery… and something about how I like shit music. So whatever, I asked him what I did to inspire such actions… I bet it was when I let him know he spelled someones name wrong. No response… never a response from him, as he’s way to fucking cool to get back to e-mails of any substance.

Today I get an e-mail, personally addressed to myself, from Mr. Triangulum himself, asking for help promoting his new show… wishing me his best.

I didn’t care enough to make a big deal about the stupid posting he made, nor about the half assed apology… but I just think it’s so aweful to ask me for help and send regards after not even dignifying yourself with a proper response to my asking what the fuck I even did.

Screw you to all the people who stand there and talk to you, ask you for help, and then go home and think ill of you. If you were any sort of civil human being, you’d just steer clear altogether and not patronize only when it benefits yourself. Cowards.

Critical Mass London Dedicates Ride to Injured Cyclist

Press Release: Critical Mass London Dedicates Ride to Injured Cyclist

This Friday September 29th at 6pm in Victoria Park London cyclists will rally together in solidarity to participate in another monthly Critical Mass. Unfortunately, this month we will be implementing a detour to our regular route in order to cycle past Victoria Hospital where a dear friend of many is in intensive care as a result of a ghastly accident. On September 17th at 2:45 am Mitch Brogan was struck by a drunk driver while cycling home. Mitch Brogan was a passionate advocate of alternative and sustainable transportation who consistently participated in monthly Critical Mass bike rallies. As a founder of the GoBioFuel collective, Mitch educated our community about safe alternatives to petrol dependent transportation. His vivacious energy, perseverance and creativity have been a constant source of inspiration to our community.

Even though the implications of his accident have left him paralyzed, we are grateful that his life is no longer in jeopardy. Regrettably, Mitch is only one of many Londoners who have experienced aggressive life altering encounters with irresponsible drivers. The environmental implications of our dependency on petrol is only one tenet of the problem. With approaching municipal elections it is imperative that we make cycling advocacy and safety a nontrivial matter. Jeff Pastorius, an enthusiastic cyclist and friend of Mitch said: “It is unfortunate that our municipal decision makers require a disaster such as this followed by a massive rally of support before they are willing to act in a rational manner. It is unreasonable to further ignore cyclists’ right to a safe roadway. It would be wise for candidates in the upcoming election to address cycling safety and access in their campaigns.”

Please join us this Friday as we dedicate this Critical Mass to Mitch Brogan and his full and safe recovery. We strongly encourage participants to bring signs and where a helmet. Mitch’s saved his life. For information please contact CriticalMassLondon@gmail.com

HotKid ‘Got It To Give’ (2006)
Filed under: Music News, Album Review Posted @ 6:23 pm `

Cambridge, Ontario drums & guitar duo HotKid combine quite a few of rock history’s cultural roots. Cleverly blending elements of sonic, grunge, surf, early metal and even earlier rock & roll with catchy style and tuneful rythems, HotKid’s new 10 track album ‘Got it to give’ shows that the creative team certainly have a lot of energy and a fair deal of talent.

The actual disk quality is a little muddy, and the vocals are a little strained at points, but the EP is a good listen. Singer and guitarist Shiloh Harrison puts together songs with crunchy distortion and as the track ‘knock you down’ proclaims that she has a loud mouth which she uses to belt repetitive rock lyrics. The title track shows a different side of HK with drummer Peter McIntosh lending vocals to create a dreamier harmonizing arrangement.

The band has already shared the stage with some great artists, such as The Sadies, Julie Doiron, and Atomic 7, and with their upcoming tour will be sharing the stage with their friend B.A. Johnston. Catch them Thursday night at Call The Office!

Bastid Sonz Album Release
Filed under: Local News, Music News Posted @ 7:02 am `

Bastid Sonz are set to release their first full length album, *Round-Two*, this month at Call the Office in downtown London! Together with These Three Cites of Toronto, Ripoff Artist of London and Street Pharmacy of Welland, the show promises to be an eclectic journey from punk to funk to rock and back again.

The album was recorded partly at Willyboy Studios in London and at Dashwood Recording Company in Crediton. As with their previous EP, Time Out, there is a decisive quirkiness to the music as well as an
overlapping of styles, genres and influences. However, what makes *Round-Two* far more memorable is the addition of Ryan “Sully” Sullivan as producer.

Listeners can expect cleaner sound, tighter writing and better songs. The lineup is a varied one, with songs spanning a musical spectrum from the raw punk of Unpaid Holiday to funky molestations of disco and
metal like Funboy and Happy Harold to the soul searching Cut Our Losses.
Bastid Sonz are singer/guitarist Dave Creces and bassist Gerard Creces of London, guitarist Steven Q Dawe of Clinton and drummer Perry Weido of
Seaforth.

The all ages release party takes place Friday, September 29th at Call the Office, 213 York St, London. Doors open at 9:00 with the show starting at
9:30. Admission is $5. All are welcome!

great quote…
There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action. And it is because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium. It will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, nor how valuable, nor how it compares to other expressions. It is your business to keep the channel open. You do not have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep aware and open directly to the urges that activate you, keep the channel open.

New Legend Killers CD
Filed under: Uncategorized, Local News, Music News, Album Review Posted @ 6:14 am `

A quick update from the plush, well lit offices here at LEGEND KILLERS HQ and just let you know a little bit about what’s going on with the Mighty LEGEND KILLERS these days. Our big cd release show at Call the Office back in July was one hot rockin’ night I’ll tell you what. For those of you who were unable to attend I must say that the blood, the sweat and the beers were really flowing, well not too much blood I don’t think, but lots of sweat and beer and Jager and JD etc. etc. It sure was a fun night and a big thanks from us to everyone who came out, especially those of you who purchased a cd. And speaking of the cd. “We’re Workin’ On It” on What Wave Records, things are really starting to happen. I can feel the momentum on this thing building even as I type this update. The word is getting out and getting around that this is one rockin’ disc.

Just listen to what some of the critics are saying.

“Can I just say how much I’m loving the LEGEND KILLERS new CD? Well-played, well put-together… and in grave danger of being worn out (that’s how often I’m playing it!).”
Cora – mygiglist.com

“Sweaty garage rock and roll played from the soul (or sole) of the beat up well-loved Converse high top. Like mainlining Dictators and chasing the devil with The Fleshtones. Honest, hardworking rock and roll not created by fortuitous condition.”
Christopher Duda – Sugarbuzz Magazine

I could go on and on, but I won’t. I would however like to take this opportunity to say another big thanks to everyone at CHRW Radio Western who have really been supporting the cd in a big way. Especially Buck Malibu, In The Red Ryan and of course the Canadian Guru of Garage, What Wave Dave. You can check out all their archived shows at http://www.chrwradio.com They always play the LEGEND KILLERS!

For those of you in the Hamilton area, or those of you who might want to go on a road trip, the LEGEND KILLERS next appearance will be at the Underground, 41 St Catherine St. N. in Hamilton on Friday Sept 1. Hope to see some of you their
