Cambridge, Ontario drums & guitar duo HotKid combine quite a few of rock history’s cultural roots. Cleverly blending elements of sonic, grunge, surf, early metal and even earlier rock & roll with catchy style and tuneful rythems, HotKid’s new 10 track album ‘Got it to give’ shows that the creative team certainly have a lot of energy and a fair deal of talent.

The actual disk quality is a little muddy, and the vocals are a little strained at points, but the EP is a good listen. Singer and guitarist Shiloh Harrison puts together songs with crunchy distortion and as the track ‘knock you down’ proclaims that she has a loud mouth which she uses to belt repetitive rock lyrics. The title track shows a different side of HK with drummer Peter McIntosh lending vocals to create a dreamier harmonizing arrangement.

The band has already shared the stage with some great artists, such as The Sadies, Julie Doiron, and Atomic 7, and with their upcoming tour will be sharing the stage with their friend B.A. Johnston. Catch them Thursday night at Call The Office!
