:: Face Melter by Papa Fogals Chair
by: Josh Geddis (Monday, December 06)

The grizzled rasp of an elderly poet's verse intros the new Papa Fogals Chair EP. His voice, a slowly building growl, draws the listener in to his rant, and just when you've relaxed into his droning, that's when Papa decides to drop the hammer.

The opening track of Face Melter, Spirit, with its driving precussion and tight, grinding instrumentation is one of the best. Though, as with most new hardcore/metal bands, their sound stirs up images of Walk-era Pantera. However, as Face Melter progresses you begin to notice little things in their instrumentation that many new metal bands tend to ignore.

The guitar work of Joey Grisdale, and Andy Chillman is incredible. It seems these two have taken the laws set forth by the Metal Axe Gods to heart, and take every opportunity to show off the guitar tricks where ever they can.

Andy's brother Adam leads the precussion side of things, with Derek Turner on drums, and Mike Bird on bass. This rhythm section is tight, intricate, and in your face.

Each member is given free reign to display their induvidual talents on this EP. Each track has thier distinct sound, but is very different in structure and temo. Face Melter is a great disc, and is highly recommended if you're a fan of the Nu Metal genre, but sick of the vast number of bands that sound exactly the same.
