:: The Planet Smashers @ Call The Office
by: (Monday, November 22)

Not often can one go to call the office for a ska show and hear California by Tupac as a warm up for a band, but the Junction’s fusion of hip hop, rock, and 80’s synth proves the boundries of musical taste are all relative. Once on the stage, the vocalist proved he could sing, scream, and hit falsetto notes, showing experimental music can still sound great. The blending of the keyboard’s melodic notes with the funky punch of the bass made it hard not to groove to it all. The drums and guitar gave their sound the heavy, hard-hitting tones of pure rock. All in all they are “going to be big” as the lead singer of Planet Smashers attested.

With the crowd sufficently warmed up, Planet Smashers toook the stage. Brass instruments gleamed in Call the Office’s lights, and drum beats began to roll over the people in the Ska pit. With that, the nights’ festivities began. Sometimes it’s hard to equate just how good a band is untill you hear them live, and ska is so much better with the crashing of cymbals and tooting of trumpets and trombones. In a word, spectacular! Hearing “Surfin in Tolfino” and other such classics was amplified by the feeling of the crowd. There was a huge pit, with music lovers from all spectrums skanking together. Rounding out the night, and driveing the masses to frenzy, was “Super Orgy Porno Party”. With a title like that, you know this band has a sense of humor, which always makes a good show great.
