Members: llison Brown Bio: Folksinger Allison Brown's engaging and eclectic performance invites her audience on a journey through a wide range of emotions and experiences. As an excellent interpreter of folk and roots music, she treads the thin lines between folk, blues and country with a diverse repertoire of both traditional and original songs. Allison plays guitar along with her smooth vocals, delivered with the honest intensity of an authentic storyteller. With over ten years of performance experience, Allison's confident stage savvy is evident whether in an intimate coffeehouse or a raucous nightclub atmosphere. Originally from Windsor, Allison began performing solo in coffeehouses, nightclubs and at local events while attending the Music Industry Arts program at Fanshawe College in London. After graduation, Allison traveled throughout Ontario, collecting songs spanning generations and genres from kitchen jams, rare vinyl, and from many songwriter friends. Allison began writing her own unique material while spending time in Sudbury, Orangeville, and Toronto. After a year working at a Windsor record store, Allison returned to London and spent this year touring Ontario both on her own and leading small ensembles. Allison has performed at several Ontario venues such as the Press Club of Windsor, the Lift Lounge, the Art Gallery of Windsor, Mackenzie Hall, Aeolian Hall, the Townhouse Tavern, the Brunswick Hotel, the Corner Coffeehouse, the E-Bar, Carden St. Cafe, Embassy Hotel, Elements Lounge, Rasputin's Folk Cafe, The Ugly Mug Café, Paddy's Pub, The Bookstore Cafe in Camden East, Holy Joe's, The London Music Club, The Sleepless Goat Cafe, Merchant McLiam's, Raintree Cafe, as well as at house concerts, Windsor's Smogfest and Art in The Park, the Harrington Musicians CornFest and Wheatley HarvestFest. Allison recently performed at the New Foundation Songwriters Collective monthly show at Hugh's Room in Toronto. A nominee for the London Music Awards 2003, Allison has made several appearances on CFPL TV's "New Day" program and has given special opening performances for artists such as The Chevy Project, Alfie Smith, Claire Jenkins, The Sirens and Veda Hille. Highlights of Allison's summer adventures were her performances at the Home County Folk Festival alongside folk group "Wortley Road" and her special invitation to perform on the Eaglewood Folk Festival mainstage. Allison is eagerly anticipating her official festival debut at this year's Trout Forest Music Festival in Ear Falls. Active in Ontario's folk community, Allison has been a volunteer at Home County Folk Festival, Northern Lights Festival Boreal, Eaglewood Folk Festival and a delegate at the annual OCFF Conference. Dedicated to sharing folk music with the community, she is also the co-host of "For The Folk" on CHRW Radio Western 94.9fm Now a familiar face and voice in Ontario's folk music community, Allison is looking forward to continuing the progress of her first recording project and to performances throughout the province this year. ---- Discography: |
